Kids on Course

Yesterday, make a difference photography participated in the 2nd annual Kids on Course Golf Tournament at the International Country Club in Fairfax, VA. What a great day for golf and for picture taking. Thanks to Wade Hardman of Childhelp for getting the action shots out on the course while I took the foursome shots and put together the slide show for the cocktail hour.

Thanks to all the participants, sponsors, volunteers and celebrities for making it such a fun filled day and for raising lots of money for Childhelp.

Everyone get those picture orders rolling in so even more money can go to Childhelp. Remember, $5 of mad money from every print sold is donated to charity. And don't forget to check out the new Artography gallery.

World Wide Photo Walk

Yesterday I was one of 30,000 photographers world wide taking a hike. I joined about two dozen enthusiastic photographers at the Wolf Trap Farm Park in Vienna, VA. Our goal was to spend a couple of hours enjoying the park, making some great images and some new friends. I think we all did that. Over 900 groups of photographers did the same thing all over the world.

I think my favorite image of the day is this photo. This was shot in the same way as the image below, but I added Nik Polaroid Transfer filter to it. I've been on a filter kick lately. You can thank Moose Peterson and Laurie Excell for that. A filter can make a great image (and even those not so great) really pop. I can see this printed on canvas hanging in a hotel lobby somewhere or maybe just in my living room.

This image is similar, but is exactly as shot in the camera. Absolutely no post processing on this image. This technique is the same as the Roman Coliseum shot on my web page but with a much shorter exposure time.

You can find more images from today on my web site http://makeadifferencephotography.com/ or on my new flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/picsbyjan/

09 Drive the Dream Gala

Last Saturday night in Scottsdale, AZ, Childhelp put on a fabulous gala in conjuction with the opening of the annual Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction. 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the organization founded by Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson. The event commemorated this milestone by highlighting the Hollywood beginnings of Sara and Yvonne. Many of Childhelp's celebrity ambassadors were on hand to help celebrate and to participate in a genuine Hollywood Squares game. Peter Marshall was there to ask questions of the celebrities and contestants Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and soon to be governor of AZ, Jan Brewer. The Squares were populated by Collin Raye, Debbi Boone, Norm Crosby, John O'Hurley, Catherine Oxenberg, Casper Van Dien, Connie Stevens, Deanna Lund, Rick & Andrea Schroder, Jane Seymour, Kathie Lee Gifford and Cheryl Ladd filling the all important center square.

This event drew a lot of press coverage and Make a Difference Photography was thrilled to be able to serve as the co-founders photographer for the evening. For images of the event, please visit the 09 Drive the Dream gallery at http://makeadifferencephotography.com/.

Mark your calendar for next year to be a part of the 2010 Drive the Dream Gala. For those in the DC area, block out the evening of June 3 and join us at the Newseum for the next installment of Capitol 'Care'aoke. Or if you live in the San Diego area, be sure to attend the Childhelp USO gala on the USS Midway on May 1. Details can be found at http://www.childhelp.org.
